We regularly hold official FCH and RFHE Galops assessments, levels 1–7.
Our approved instructors can assess Galops 1–3, 5 and 6 at our facilities.
An external examiner visits the club for Galops 4 and 7.
Riders from outside the club can also take assessments, using their own horse or one of ours.
We offer preparation courses and schedule assessments throughout the school year.
Our intensive courses also prepare students for the assessments.
An equestrian federation licence is required.

A Galop assessment evaluates a rider’s practical skills and knowledge. The programme is divided into levels, from basic to advanced.
Riders must meet the minimum age requirement and have the skills and knowledge required for the relevant level.
Depending on the level, assessments cover areas such as balance, correct position, horse handling, speed and direction control, jumping and basic equine first-aid knowledge.
There are several parts, including a practical riding test and a theory test on riding and horse care. A jumping test may also be required, depending on the level.
Take regular lessons with a qualified instructor, practise riding, study the manuals and materials provided by your riding centre, and attend theory sessions covering the knowledge required for your chosen level.
Galop levels demonstrate your riding skills and knowledge. They help you progress towards more advanced goals and open up opportunities to take part in equestrian competitions and activities. These qualifications are recognised within the equestrian community.
